WHY WORK WITH US

At Family Psychology Mutual (FPM), our people are our greatest asset. We are proud to work with talented, values-driven professionals who are passionate about helping families facing complex challenges.

If you are looking to make meaningful change in the lives of families and young people and want to develop your career in a supportive and collaborative environment, FPM could be the right place for you.

At FPM, we look for colleagues who are:

  • Values-driven and compassionate

  • Strong communicators and collaborators

  • Motivated to support families through challenging situations

  • Open to learning and professional development

  • Committed to delivering evidence-based practice

In return, we offer a workplace where you can grow, develop, and build a rewarding career while making a real difference.

A Career That Grows With You

We believe that investing in people leads to better outcomes for families.

Learning a new therapeutic model can feel challenging at first. That’s why we provide structured training and ongoing support to help you build confidence and expertise.

At FPM you will benefit from:

  • Structured model training

  • Weekly clinical supervision

  • Case consultations and skill development sessions

  • Opportunities to collaborate across teams

Many of our therapists have progressed into supervisory and leadership roles, and we actively encourage staff to progress their careers within the organisation.

We are equally interested in the ideas and experience you bring, and we encourage staff to contribute to developing new services and opportunities.

Employee Benefits

We aim to create a supportive and flexible working environment that helps you balance professional and personal commitments.

Our benefits include:

  • Flexible working arrangements

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • Electric vehicle scheme

  • Childcare vouchers

  • Free tea and coffee on site

You will also receive:

  • High-quality IT equipment and software

  • Strong administrative support

  • Access to professional development opportunities

As a staff-owned organisation, every employee also has a voice in how the company grows. We actively encourage staff to contribute ideas and influence how the company develops and invests its resources.

We also prioritise connection and collaboration through:

  • A company-funded Christmas meal

  • Two whole-service events each year to bring teams together

Employee Ownership

FPM is proud to be a staff-owned organisation.

After completing their probation period, employees purchase a single £10 share in the company, becoming co-owners with an equal stake.

This means that everyone has a say in how the organisation operates and evolves.

Any surplus income is reinvested into staff development and improving services, rather than distributed as profit.

Employee Owned Council

We take pride in our EOC, consisting of co-owners who have chosen to represent their colleagues. The EOC serves as a platform for regular meetings, enabling co-owners to address any issues impacting the teams.

There are multiple channels for representing and amplifying employee voices during senior management and FPM Board meetings. We are transferring the management of our Employee Assistance Programme to the EOC as we know that wellbeing support is of keen interest to colleagues.

Diversity and Inclusion

At FPM, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to our work.

We recognise that many of the families we support face inequality, discrimination, and disadvantage. Our services aim to be inclusive, accessible, and responsive to individual needs.

Our internal Diversity Group works to embed equality and inclusion across all areas of the organisation, including:

  • Service delivery

  • Recruitment practices

  • Policy development

  • Organisational culture

Bringing Our Teams Together

We hold two Togetherness Days each year, where colleagues from across the organisation come together.

These events provide opportunities to:

  • Build relationships across teams

  • Share learning and best practice

  • Discuss service developments

  • Meet with senior leaders and board members

They help strengthen collaboration and ensure teams stay connected.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN
FFT THERAPIST?

FPM currently operates three Functional Family Therapy (FFT) teams, and we recruit therapists to support this work.

HOW IT WORKS

Training

New therapists complete training provided by FFT Inc, beginning with a two-day orientation programme covering:

  • FFT core principles

  • Intervention techniques

  • Assessment approaches

  • Case management systems

Therapists also learn to use the Clinical Service System (CSS) to manage and review clinical work.

Ongoing Support

Therapists begin working with families soon after training and receive extensive support through:

  • Weekly group supervision

  • Case consultations

  • Skills development sessions

  • Risk and safeguarding reviews

Additional individual supervision is provided for new staff joining established teams.

Most therapists achieve strong competence in the model within 9–12 months.

Career Progression

We are committed to supporting long-term career development.

Typical progression includes:

Year 1 – Developing Competence
Therapists build skills and confidence in the FFT model through supervision, training, and practice.

Year 2 – Professional Growth
Therapists usually reach strong adherence scores and may be eligible for a pay progression during appraisal.

Supervisor Opportunities
In developing teams, experienced therapists may apply to train as FFT Supervisors and take on leadership responsibilities.

Supervisors receive specialist training and consultation from FFT LLC, including an externship programme.

Continuing Professional Development

FPM actively supports staff in maintaining professional registrations and developing new skills.

Support may include:

  • Advanced training opportunities

  • Study leave

  • Financial contributions towards professional development

Training opportunities are discussed on a one-to-one basis.
