PSYCHOLOGY MUTUAL
Empowering families and individuals towards a safer and happier future.
We work together with young people and families in their own homes and communities to create and sustain positive changes using high quality outcome-based psychological therapeutic based interventions.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Family Psychology Mutual CIC delivers evidence-based clinical interventions for families of young people at risk of care entry or involvement with the criminal justice system, including those experiencing conduct disorder, antisocial behaviour, or risks of extra-familial harm and child criminal exploitation.
We increasingly use Functional Family Therapy (FFT) to support reunification of young people from care back into their families.
Our experienced clinical team is supported by a dedicated business development and administration unit.
Being offered support can feel daunting. Many families feel nervous, unsure, or sceptical at first especially if this is their first experience of therapy. But, we’re here to support you and your family, every step of the way.
We focus on understanding what’s really going on, reducing stress at home, and helping families find practical ways forward — together.
WHO DO WE HELP?
Families experiencing conflict, breakdown in communication, concerns about behaviour or emotions, school difficulties, or worries about the future.
Young People at risk of extra-familial harm, parental neglect, criminal exploitation, entering care, or are returning from care.
Professionals across children’s services, who support families facing complex challenges.
Commissioners interested in the services we offer and how these could be commissioned in your area.
Therapists looking to joining one of our teams, or find out more about the work we do.
HOW DO WE
HELP?
Functional Family Therapy (FFT)
FFT (Functional Family Therapy) is a short-term, strengths-based programme for families. A trained FFT therapist visits your home once a week, usually for about five months.
What the therapist does:
Works with the whole family, not just one person
Follows clear steps to build family strengths
Helps repair relationships and improve communication
Teaches practical problem-solving skills to lower risks and support lasting change
We deliver the licensed FFT model with care and offer extra support services, including clinical variants of FFT for Child Welfare (FFT-CW) and for young people at risk of extra familial harm/child criminal exploitation (FFT-EFH).
Our goal is to help families get better outcomes and make the best use of team support.
Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST)
We have a strong track record delivering and managing Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) services and teams. MST is an intensive, evidence-based program that helps young people who are facing serious challenges and supports their families. Key features families can expect:
Regular in-home family therapy sessions, usually at least twice a week.
24/7 on-call support while the family is in the program.
Proven approaches tailored to each problem — we have also used MST-based programs for child abuse and neglect, problematic sexual behaviour, adolescent substance misuse, and reunification from care.
Our goal is to work closely with your family to reduce risky behaviour, improve relationships, and support long-term positive change.
